A sneak peek, a new illustration and I got published!

Good morning everyone! I hope you all woke up to the same gorgeous day that I did! Crystal blue skies, perfect temperature and full sun! Remember to embrace everyday and squeeze everything you can out of it! As Robert Smith once have to get up, get out and get gone!

So as I mentioned in my last post, my good friend David came to my house last week to do a "Day in the Life" photo shoot with me. Some of the photos will include my morning shenanigans with the kids, and then the the rest of my day which is pretty much in the studio. Here is a little sneak peek into that day:

Next…I present to you "The Lonely Queen" - 11x14 mixed media on bristol board. I started her the day I was being photographed (as you can see in the photo above).

Finally, I am proud to announce that my "Dark Faerie" art doll made it to the pages of Art Doll Quarterly. This beautiful magazine will be hitting the shelves on May 1st!

You win some and you lose some….

Well, I did another craft show this weekend. It was a local one that I decided to do at the last minute and even though it was a great location with lots of fabulous venders it just fell flat for me. It has been such a learning experience to see where my art sells and where it just doesn't. It didn't help that it was a beautiful day out and I believe that most people wanted to be outside enjoying the sunshine. On the upside I did meet many fabulous folks and heard many kind words. I also feel that my presentation gets better every time and from each show I vend I make more and more connections. I love figuring out new ways to display my pieces and I have gotten great tips from long time crafters. I will be sure to let you guys know where I will be selling next. :)

And for some exciting news…my fabulous friend David Chilleri of David Kristofer Photography will being doing a "Day in the Life" photo shoot in my home this Friday. Not only will he be taking photos of my typical day, he will be photographing me in the studio. I am so very excited!

Please check out his beautiful work here:

Never give up!

I wanted to share this little post I wrote on a page a belong to on Facebook with fellow artists. I feel as though I had a breakthrough this week and just had to put this out to the universe...

I have been a struggling freelance artist for almost 10 years and there have been times when I was ready to give up on my art. It can feel like such a selfish dream when my husband leaves every morning for work and I stay home having a creatively wonderful day trying to fulfill my dreams. It is my passion and what makes me happy but it does not always pay the bills.

Over the last few months I finally feel like I am reaching others with my art. As most of you know I was published in the fall issue of Artful Blogging and will be included in the summer issue of Art Doll Quarterly. This week I met with the curator of a gallery here in New Jersey and I will be hanging my first solo show this October!

It has been an uphill climb and there have been many tears and loads of guilt but also happiness and joy for my artful life. So please never give up on your dreams…hard work and perseverance will lead you to your true path. I am feeling so blessed.

On another note….I got a Fitbit for my birthday and I am finally on the path to getting fit. After many years of struggling with my weight and trying to eat right and stay active this little bracelet that I am wearing is making be stay accountable. I love tracking my calories, steps and sleep. It has been such a motivator for me! So if you are considering one, go for it! I just love mine!

Spring is coming!

After a long, wet and quite drab winter…I can finally see the light. It's a sunny, 50 degree day out and I am feeling optimistic about life! Go out and live one!

Baby it's cold outside!

It is Winer and it should be cold…but the snow keeps missing us. I would love to have a beautiful layer of the white stuff to cover up the mud and ice that has been hanging around for weeks. Oh well…I will just keep dreaming of green grass and flowers until Spring.

So, I'm all signed up for the Punk Rock Flea Market again so if you are in the are come out and see me! I plan to have lot of new goodies!

Here are a couple of my most recent pieces to share. I LOVE doing custom illustrations so feel free to send me an email at if you are interested in having your own done.

I have a few more to share but they will have to wait until after Valentine's Day!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful year so far…sending love and faerie hugs to you all!

Finding your place in the art world….

I did graphic design for many, many years and though I was pretty good at was not my passion. I longed to work with my hands, pencils, paint and so forth. Working on the computer 8 hours a day just felt too clean and too precise. I love getting messy in my studio…making mistakes…having happy accidents. What I just can't figure out now is what direction I need to go. I gave retail a shot by opening my own gift boutique/studio but the business aspect of that was so stressful that it drained my creativity and certainly left me a bit jaded. Now that the shop is closed and I am back in my home studio my creativity has blossomed once again. I am back to focusing on creating new illustrations, commissioned pieces and my running online shop. I guess what I can't seem to figure out is where to go from here.

As most of you know I was published in Artful Blogging this past Autumn. I had hoped it would be a springboard for me and would help me figure out what steps I should take next. Sadly, it left me more deflated than ever. I yearn to get my art out to the masses…to share my images with those who would find joy, hope and understanding in them…and also be able to make a more substantial income. (hey we all have to eat, right?)

I always reflect on my life at the beginning of the New Year as I am sure most people do. Everyone has resolutions that they want to stick to, new diets and exercise routines and so forth. We all strive to be the best we can be during our short time on this planet…I just want to know that I am doing the most I can with the life I have been given. Where do I go from here?
