Exciting news!!!!!

So I have been kind of MIA on the blog lately...but busy on my Facebook page. After kind of a crappy show at the Art All Night event......I was not sure if doing art tables at shows was really my calling. While I had a ton of positive feedback it was the wrong venue for my work and once the sun went down I was in the dark (no lighting aimed at my table and no outlets to add lighting...sigh) which made it impossible for anyone to see my work...not to mention being placed next to the music stage which had very loud bands performing ALL NIGHT LONG. So not only could folks not see me very well I could not even carry on a conversation with potential customers. Oh well....live and learn I suppose.

Thanks to some seamstress magic by my mother-in-law and some craft display ideas from friends and family my table was quite beautiful.....

But things have gone in a different direction for me. As you know I sell my art at a local gallery called The Copper Frog. This gallery is in my town and is located in a 300 year old mill called The Allentown Feed Co. Inside the Mill there was once a German restaurant on the first floor, a cafe in the basement and retail shoppes on the second and third floors. These businesses were forced out several years ago due to some bridge construction that was taking place. The county took over the Mill and forced everyone to close up shop. During the years it took the construction to be completed it was sad and empty. Then hurricane Irene came through and rocked our little village causing mass amounts of damage to the Mill. The owners are now picking up the pieces and trying to get the Mill back up in running. There is a restaurant just waiting to get in as well as several shops. One of those shops will be mine!!!! My mother-in-law and myself have decided to join the word of small business owners and open up a handmade gift shoppe and art studio! This will be the new home to Dark Faerie Creations and it will be called GYPSIES!!!!! I am so excited to be going on this adventure and I just know it is meant to be!

This is an image of the Old Mill....back in the day.....:)

and this is where you can follow Mimi and I into our journey.....we will be posting the transformation of our space as well as photos of projects we are working on for the shoppe! Stay Tuned!

Veganism and ART ALL NIGHT!!!!

So it is has been a busy and exciting couple of weeks! Last weekend my friends and I participated in the Bordentown Green Fair in which we had a tent set up (Veganism IS Environmentalism) to bring awareness about veganism and also sold cookies to raise money for our friend's farm sanctuary! (http://www.fortheanimalssanctuary.org) We raised $225!!! That's a ton of cookies!

Also....the little vegan and vegetarian facebook page I started last year was just featured in our local paper! Pretty cool for some small town vegans like us!

And lastly.....this is what I have been working on the last couple of weeks...getting ready for Trenton's Art All Night event. An arts and entertainment event that is happening this Saturday from 3pm to 3pm on Sunday! It's awesome and it's free! This year they started accepting vendors so I applied and got accepted! This is my very first show and I am really quite nervous but at the same time I am bursting with excitement! I look forward to seeing how others react to my art! Crossing my fingers it will be a positive experience. They are expecting 20,000 people to attend so this is huge! Here are a few pics I took this week of my progress.....

If you are in the area come out and see us...we swap vegan goodies for donations :)

I also registered to be a vendor at the Art All Night event in Trenton on the 15th and 16th of this month but still waiting to find out if I got accepted. Crossing fingers that I get in but I have to get myself ready just in case!

Enjoy this weather and hope to post more soon!

Pagan angel in a borrowed car.....

I have Iron and Wine on the mind today....I was in Sam Beam's presence last night in Philly. My second time seeing him in concert and just amazing as the first. I just love that man!

As for me....I have been busy doing non artsy things as of late....just the normal things like cleaning, mowing the yard and the like.....some days no matter how hard I try I just don't make it into the studio. Even when this happens I always have some pieces in progress even if I just get to work on them a little bit at a time. Here is a pic of my current mess...I mean studio.... so you can see what I mean! LOL!

This piece just popped out of my imagination one afternoon (still in progress)....I quite love her and she represents me in a way. I have always been a little different.....never quite the goth girl but not quite the girl next door...eschewing the standard american diet by becoming vegan....dying my blonde hair to jet black....I am quite proud of the woman I have become and the one I am becoming. I am unique...I think outside the box...and I refuse to live in a bubble. So I say express yourselves everyday....sing loud in the shower (like my son loves to do!)...dance in the rain....hug a stranger...live out loud!

inspiration from the strangest places....

As all artists do I do gather inspiration from many things.....but sometimes I find those things to be almost comical. In our bathroom we have flooring that kinds of mimics the look of granite. Whenever I stare at the floor I always find faces. It's strange because I never see the same face twice. Needless to say you never know when the next idea jump out at you! I have learned just to keep my sketchbook nearby so that I never miss inspiration when it strikes! The last face I found lead me to create these two new illustration. This new little face shape came straight from my bathroom floor.....

a day in the studio.....

My littlest one is off playing with her Mimi so I get to spend a big chunk of my day in the studio! Though I miss her while she is away it really helps be catch up and center myself. Art is my therapy...my passion...and my first love. Being all alone with my music and my imagination does wonders for me emotionally and helps me re-energize so that I can take on the crazy, beautiful life that I live.

Here on some things I am working on today.....

A custom art doll faerie for a special little girl....

The start of a mixed media piece....

Playing with some alcohol inks on dominos....soon to be pendants!

Creating new tags for my "Garden Faerie" Necklaces!

And lastly....Dark Faerie Terrariums! These will be exclusively at The Copper Frog
